Venticinque sul filo

by Alberto Valtellina, Sergio Visinoni

Around Liegi, coal has been excavated until the 70s' to make the furnace of the steel factories work. Today, only an attentive eye can recognize what is left of the Collart mines. Sergio Stramare, who has worked for eleven years in Collart, remembers it well: a shopping center lies today where once there was the entrance of the mine, a newly built road separates the mine area from the downtown, where the village used to live according to the working shifts of the miners. The hill, which was formed with the waste of the mine, has been leveled. "Yesteryear..." says Battista Botticchio, who has worked in the mine for 28 years, "... and I don't feel like speaking about it." He says that people cannot understand what it means to work in a mine, " You have to work there to understand".
