Tallinn Lieve

by Alberto Cima, Paola Ratti

A reflection on the human being, on the human condition. The city of Tallinn, capital of Estonia, offers the rare possibility of observing freely, without tricks of the eye nor violence. People welcome the watching eye naturally, they do not feel offended nor do they withdraw, they participate willingly, discreetly. In every place: in bars, on streetcars, along the street. The enchantment of the mystery we, human beings, are. They move, express themselves, speak, sing, whisper, play music. And they never cease to convey messages, even when their voice goes off and they start staring into space with embarrassment. Outside the protection of the conventional notes, the man is, for a moment, lost. And that's when we get more interested on him, when we get touched. For a second, he is unveiled, unarmed, alive, true. Somebody speaks about the suffering of this people that got rid of a ferocious domination only ten years ago. We feel their pain. The young and beautiful bride, the tramp, the alcoholic and the genius of the piano. All belong to the same reality. A reality that takes on millions of shapes, like the flowers in a field: all essential. All the images of Gentle Tallinn belong to reality as do its sounds.
