Wren is a young punk who tries in any way to succeed on the musical scene of Manhattan. With no money and talent, she meets Paul, a young man who has just arrived in New York from Montana, and Eric, an arrogant musician. Susan Seidelman's first movie, Smithereens has been the first Independent American movie to compete for the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival.
