Mouchette

by Robert Bresson

Mouchette is fourteen years old and lives in an isolated rural French village with her alcoholic father, her bedridden mother and an infant brother. Perennially mocked and humiliated by her classmates and adults, Mouchette is raped by a poacher she had helped. Based on the novel of the same name by Georges Bernanos, Mouchette is a tale of misery and cruelty that doesn't leave any space for false hopes.
